Bunny News Plus A Crazy Weekend!!!!

Yesterday we had three full German Angora litters born! This week end has been crazy. The little boy bunny I had posted about previously turn out to be a girl! haha.... I guess we are back to the drawing board for names.

As far as the Master Spinners Program things have been crazy! I have spun up many sample skeins of different blends using Mohair, Alpaca and Llama. I will post new pictures later this week. I sent master spinners level 1 in to be graded today, and have gotten a great start on level 2!

Washing Fleeces for Level Two

I washed Llama (top left), Mohair (top right) and Alpaca (below center) to get ready for level two.

Louet Surprise!

So, I guess you get the idea that a lot happened this weekend! Louet sent a package and it came this past weekend. I had sent them a list of needed supplies, but I did not think they would send the needed combs. As you can see from the pictures above that the combs came, and I was so happy!:) Thanks Louet!!!!

Spinning for fun!

I know anythime you spin it is fun, but I had been so busy spinning up samples for this course I did not spin just what I wanted to. So this past weekend I spun up some fiber I got from Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival that I had not had a chance to touch yet!

Handspun Alpaca Yarn

This past weekend an Alpaca breeder sent me some alpaca and alpaca/bamboo roving. She had asked that I send her a sample of the yarn, so here is a picture of it.

CVM Yarn

Thanks to Peg Sorensen who donated CVM wool for this project! I spun both a worsted and a woolen skein as well as knit 2' x 2' samples. This is my tenth breed, and now I am finished with level one.

Bunny Photos

These pictures were taken today (Feb. 9th 2010) of our little bunny. He was born in a litter of three and is the only one who lived. His mother died while in birth, so he is being fostered by another mother. My siblings and I have had a lot of fun caring for him!

fiber projects this weekend

This past weekend was busy. On Saturday I went with my mom and sister to a spinning guild in our area. It was fun and hopefully this art will keep growing (as the guild only had about 3 members not including us). In our area there are a lot of knitters, but no spinners. I guess we have to get them addicted to the luxury fibers. Most of them are used to working with Walmart yarns....

Anyways, I had a nice little surprise this weekend waiting for me when I came home from the spinners meeting. John Jenkins from Magpie Woodworks sent 3 natural wood drop spindles (as shown in the pic above).. they are beautiful! Thanks John!

I was able to wash up some CVM fiber and spin it up for the breed samples. I was required to spin two 2 ply sample skeins (10 yards- worsted and woolen) and knit two samples....

Well, I will post more pictures later this week. Thanks for reading.

This Month.....

has been crazy. Two weeks ago our German Angora Rabbits had bunnies. We kept running down to the barn to  check on them. My brother's doe had three (2 died) bunnies and then died after the birth. The bunny that made it from that litter now has his eyes and ears open and is always hopping around. He is our little miracle. I will post a picture of him soon.

Anyways, the beginning of next week I send the first level in to be graded and start on the second. I took the ACT for the first time and was fairly please with the score, I just need to work a little harder on the math (not my favorite subject! haha).

Has anyone else been having a crazy month???
